Abstract

Since the 1950s, the American public’s trust in government has declined. Relying on public opinion surveys, this research examines what factors explain this erosion of trust. In particular, I assess two key factors that may explain this decline, including an individual’s level of political interest and knowledge, and an individual’s degree and type of partisanship.
