Description

The newly elected members of the Consistory of the First Reformed Church have finally been installed because they were present at this meeting: Elders Labots, Broek, Apeldoorn, Wilterdink, Jonker, Keppel, and Krabshuis; and Deacons Wilterdink, de Vries, te Roller, along with Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte. The new members were welcomed and "the hope was expressed that they could serve in fraternal faithfulness and abiding love." Rules for the ringing of the bell were discussed. Several building matters were reviewed. Van Raalte felt, for health reasons, he could not preach in the new church before the necessary work was completed. A second fund drive was authorized.

Description of the document and reference to The Joint Archives of Holland by Dr. Elton J. Bruins.

About the collection:

Elton J. Bruins, long-time professor in the Department of Religion at Hope College, spent years collecting documents by and about Albertus C. Van Raalte, founder of Holland, Michigan and early patron of Hope College. Documents were gathered from dozens of public and private collections, making a nearly exhaustive collection of Van Raalte's writings and reflections. It is these documents that make up the "Van Raalte Papers."
