Abstract

A new , has been studied using the ⁶Li(¹⁶O, αγ)¹⁸F reaction. The γ-decay by a 65 ± 4 % branch to the 1121 keV (5⁺) level and 35 ± 4 % to the 3791 keV (3⁻) level has been observed and a lifetime limit τ > 2 ps has been given. A tentative assignment J^π = 5⁻ is proposed which is supported by the α-γ angular correlation measurements. The possible structure of the new level and reasons why it had not been observed in past experiments are discussed.
