All of the images in this collection are of important people and places that were involved in the creation and development of Hope College and Holland, Michigan. Many of the images appear in the book Envisioning Hope College: Letters Written by Albertus C. Van Raalte to Philip Phelps Jr., 1857 to 1875 (2011), which documents the private thoughts of Albertus C. Van Raalte, the founder of Holland, Michigan.
