Co-winner of the 2012 Van Wylen Library Altered Book Art Awards Artists' Statement: I chose to transform a book of dance quotes into a pointe shoe to show my emotions towards dance. I danced in a pre-professional company for my 4 years of high school, and had a love hate relationship with it. I chose the quotes intentionally to match both of these emotions, and used nails on it to show the pain, while the bottom is a romanticized painting of a ballerina to show the beauty of it.
