Native of the Netherlands and former businessman from Holland, Michigan. Graduate of Hope College. Elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1992 from the Second District. He then served a key role in the development of the Contract with America, which was instrumental in gaining a Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years. Hoekstra is a member of several task forces and caucuses, including the Historically Black College and Universities Task Force, Education Reform Caucus, Republican Study Committee, Congressional Pro-Life Caucus and the Bipartisan Congressional Bike Caucus.
