Hope College class of 1914 graduate; Western Theological Seminary class of 1917 graduate; licensed by the Classis of Michigan in 1917; received his Th.M. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1925; received an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Hope College in 1940; ordained by the Classis of West Sioux in 1917. Secretary of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) from 1917-1918. Served as a missionary in Chinafrom 1918-1951; taught at the South Fukien Theological Seminary from 1946-1951; served as a missionary in Singapore, China from 1955-1962; associate pastor at Garden Grove Reformed Church in Garden Grove, California, from 1962-1972; president of the General Synod of the Reformed Church in America, 1952-1953. Passed away in Garden Grove, California, in 1972. The collection includes biographical materials, articles and his unpublished and undated manuscript, The Story of the First Protestant Church in China.
