Born in Havelle, Drenthe, the Netherlands. Attended the Holland Academy in Holland, Michigan, from 1855-1858. Graduated from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in 1861. Licensed and ordained by the Classis of Holland in 1861. Served as a pastor in the Reformed Church in America at Graafschap, Michigan, and Drenthe, Michigan (1861-1865); Alto, Wisconsin (1865-1869); and First Reformed Church of Holland, Michigan (1869-1880). The collection contains a 2004 English translation, also edited, by Leonard Sweetman of the 1880 publication “Sermons Which Were Left Behind” by Roelof Pieters. (P)
