Born in Jasonville, Indiana, in 1904 to George and Thrynkia Luben. Degrees included: A.B. degree from Hope College, 1926; attended Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan, 1926-1927, and Princeton Theological Seminary, 1928; Th.M. degree from Hope College, 1929; MA from the University of Chicago, 1937; DD from Hope College in 1952. He was licensed and ordained by the Classis of Muskegon in 1929. The collection contains the scrapbook of Barnerd Luben, 1932-1945. Served as a missionary to Japan, 1929-1940. Served in various administrative roles and as a pastor for the Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church and Reformed Church in America in many New Jersey churches. Collection includes his scrapbook of when he served in Japan as a missionary and many articles and letters concerning other Japan missionaries.
