An attempted merger of the Presbyterian Church in the United States and the Reformed Church in America was negotiated by the Joint Committee of 24; discussions failed in 1969. In a 1972 conference, however, the two churches explored the denominational relationship between the PCUS and the RCA. The conference was held at the Ninth Street Christian Reformed Church in Holland,Michigan. Materials include minutes, resolutions, reports, correspondence, publications, and tapes of the Joint Council of 24. Other material is from groups such as Awake Laymen Enlisted for Reformed Truth (ALERT) and Churchmen forUnion. Correspondents include Norman E. Thomas, Donner B. Atwood, Marion de Velder, and Norman Vincent Peale.
