Abstract

Born in Uttun, East Friesland, Germany, on November 13, 1842. Received an A.B. degree from Hope College in 1867 and attended Hope College Theological Seminary until 1870, when he was licensed and ordained by the Classis of Wisconsin in 1872. Heeren and his wife, Aledia Vennema Heeren, served as missionaries to India from 1872-1877 before returning to the United States to recuperate from a lingering illness. He passed away in Pueblo, Colorado, on October 15, 1878. His wife passed away a short time later, leaving a small child. The collection includes biographical materials and photocopies of letters (Dutch translated to English) sent from the Rev. Enne J. Heeren from Wisconsin to Holland, Michigan, and India to Holland, Michigan, as well as others in the family, including Wilhelmina Emma (Van Nimwegen) Heeren, living in Holland at other times.
