Abstract

James L. Heneveld was born in Holland, Michigan, and earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Western Michigan University in 1964 and an MDiv. degree from Western Theological Seminary in 1981. Sharon (Vander Pol) Heneveld was born in Lynden, Washington, and attended Calvin College from 1961-1963. Both attended Reformed Bible Institute, Sharon from 1963-1964 and James from 1965-1966, before attending the Missionary Orientation Center in Stony Point, New York, in 1966. They were married in 1964. They worked in the mission field in Chiapas, Mexico, in 1967 before leaving for health reasons in 1977. After James was ordained by the Reformed Church in America, he served as the pastor for Belltower Reformed Church in Ellsworth, Michigan, from 1981-1993. The couple returned to Chiapas as missionaries and worked there from 1994-2007. The collection contains biographical information and slides from their time as missionaries to the Tzeltal people in Chiapas, Mexico, and a transcript of their 2017 oral history interview.
