George Niemeyer was born on March 20, 1854, in Groningen, the Netherlands, to John W. and Mrs. Niemeyer. He emigrated from there to the United States in 1867. He graduated from Hope College with the class of 1879. Niemeyer graduated from New Brunswick Theological Seminary with the class of 1882, was licensed by the Classis of Holland, and ordained by the Classis of Grand River that same year. He served as a pastor in the Reformed Church in America (RCA) for several congregations including: Detroit, Michigan (1882-1884); Vriesland, Michigan (1884-1886); First Reformed Church of Cleveland, Ohio (1886-1890); Ponds, New Jersey (1890-1903); Shokan, New York (1893-1899); Shandaken, New York (1893-1899); Otley, Iowa (1899-1901); as a missionary for the Classis Illinois and Pella (1901-1905); pastor at Northwestern, Chicago, Illinois (1905-1908); Summit, Illinois (1908-1913); and missionary for Classis Cascades (1913). Niemeyer died in Seattle, Washington, on September 4, 1913. The collection contains biographical materials and four photographs of George Niemeyer and others, ca. 1867-1913. (N)
